Due to the heavy rainfall warning, the administration has declared a holiday for schools on Monday in Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli districts in the Vidarbha region, as well as in four tehsils in Raigad district along Maharashtra’s coastal belt.

The India Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rainfall with the potential for extremely heavy showers in isolated areas of Nagpur and other districts in the Vidarbha region on Monday. They have advised residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.

Heavy rains on Saturday morning disrupted life in Nagpur city and parts of the district, flooding low-lying areas and prompting authorities to relocate residents to safer places. Similarly, Raigad district, adjacent to Mumbai, experienced significant rainfall on Saturday and Sunday.

Consequently, district collector Kishan Jawale issued an order declaring a holiday for government and private schools in the Mangaon, Karjat, Poladpur, and Mahad tehsils on Monday. The order also instructed teachers and other staff to assist the administration in relief and rescue operations.

As multiple regions in Maharashtra, including Mumbai and the coastal Konkan area, experienced substantial rainfall, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday directed officials to remain on high alert. He emphasized the need for the State Disaster Response Force, local administration, civic bodies, and police to regularly update weather information from the India Meteorological Department and plan accordingly to provide relief to citizens. Shinde also called for surveys of accident-prone areas, the adoption of flood control methods, traffic diversions as needed, and the maintenance of adequate stocks of food, medicine, and relief materials. Temporary shelter camps should also be prepared for both people and animals.
