Maharashtra Local Body Election Results 2025 LIVE: The BJP has emerged as the largest party in the Maharashtra municipal council and nagar panchayat elections, opening a wide lead over its Mahayuti allies, the Shiv Sena and the NCP, as well as the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi.
According to early results, the BJP was ahead in 127 seats, while the Shiv Sena led in 53 and the NCP in 32. Collectively, the ruling Mahayuti alliance secured leads in more than 200 seats across the state.
The Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi recorded a comparatively weaker showing, leading in 53 municipal councils and nagar panchayats. Within the alliance, the Congress was ahead in 36 seats, the Shiv Sena (UBT) in nine and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) in eight, highlighting the opposition’s struggles in the civic polls.
The polling was held in two phases on December 2 and December 20.

Mahayuti faces multi-cornered fights, Vidharba in focus as BJP and Congress lock horns
Leaders of the Mahayuti alliance, including Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, have been actively campaigning across Maharashtra. However, from the Opposition, only the Congress has been seen campaigning on a large scale.
Within the Mahayuti, the BJP and the Shiv Sena have put up rival candidates in several districts such as Sindhudurg, Satara, Dharashiv, Palghar and Thane. In contrast, the two rival NCP groups led by Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar have come together in Kolhapur.
In Vidarbha, which is Fadnavis’s strong region, the BJP and Congress are mainly fighting each other. The BJP is contesting all 27 cities there, while Congress is contesting 22, leading to direct contests in 18 cities.

The elections covered key municipal councils, including Baramati in Pune district and Ambernath in Thane district. In Nashik district, six wards in Sinnar, Ojhar and Chandwad recorded an average voter turnout of 49.47%. In a separate incident, a 25-year-old man was detained in Sinnar’s Ward No. 2 for trying to vote using his brother’s name with a fake Aadhaar card.

A tense situation erupted in Dharmabad town of Nanded after allegations that voters from Telangana had cast fake votes. A woman and a man were badly assaulted over the claims. As anger spread, a large crowd gathered outside the polling booth, forcing the police to step in and carry out a mild lathi charge to bring the situation under control.
With the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) elections approaching, the BJP on Saturday boosted its local strength by bringing in about 20 former corporators and a few city office-bearers.
The move is seen as a major setback for the rival party, including the MVA and for Ajit Pawar headed NCP, as the BJP welcomed 12 leaders from the Mahayuti party into its team, as per report by PTI.
As per the Maharashtra State Election Commission, the first phase of the civic polls that were conducted on December 2 witnessed a voter turnout of 67.63%. Voting in this phase was held for 263 municipal councils and nagar panchayats.
Meanwhile, elections were postponed in 154 wards across 76 other municipal councils and municipal panchayats. Polling for these areas was conducted on December 20, as per a report by the Indian Express.
Union Minister and Nagpur MP Nitin Gadkari on Saturday appealed to the BJP workers in the city to ensure the next Nagpur mayor comes from the party.
While addressing a BJP Yuva Morcha gathering ahead of the January 15 civic elections in Maharashtra, Gadkari stated that the BJP works differently in comparison to other parties. He also referred to the development that has been carried out under the BJP-led governments. He said that what people have seen so far is only a preview and the “picture is yet to begin”, as reported by PTI.
