A luxury car owned by Sanket Bawankule, son of Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, struck several vehicles in Nagpur’s Ramdaspeth area early Monday morning. The incident occurred around 1 am, with the Audi first colliding with complainant Jitendra Sonkamble’s car, before hitting a moped, injuring two youths.

The vehicle continued toward Mankapur, where it struck a Polo car. Its occupants pursued the Audi and managed to stop it near Mankapur bridge. Three occupants, including Sanket Bawankule, fled the scene, according to police.

The Audi’s driver, Arjun Hawre, and another individual, Chittamwar, were detained by the Polo’s occupants and handed over to the Sitabuldi police. Authorities confirmed the occupants had been returning from a beer bar, but did not specify if any were intoxicated at the time of the incident.

A case of rash driving was registered based on Sonkamble’s complaint, and both Hawre and Chittamwar were later released on bail. Investigations are ongoing.

Responding to the incident on X, state BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule acknowledged that the Audi is registered in his son’s name. He called for a thorough and impartial investigation, stressing that the law should apply equally to everyone. “I have not spoken to any police official,” he stated, adding, “Those found guilty should face appropriate action.”
