A woman was allegedly gang-raped by five men at a picnic spot in Rewa district, while she was visiting the area with her husband, police said on Friday.
According to Rewa Superintendent of Police Vivek Singh, the incident took place on October 21 when the accused men, who appeared intoxicated, were cooking and drinking near the site and reportedly made contact with the couple. “The couple had traveled to the spot on a motorcycle. The accused persons were taking a bath, making food, and partying nearby,” Singh said, as reported by The Indian Express.

Singh added that the group of men allegedly approached the couple, assaulted the husband, and separated him from his wife, after which she was raped.
The woman alleged that the assailants also filmed the assault, threatening to post the video online if she reported the incident. The couple, fearful of retaliation, delayed contacting police until the following day.
“The woman has alleged there were four-five accused persons. We have found in our investigation that many others were involved, who helped this group,” the SP said.
An FIR was registered after the couple approached the police on October 22, and a medical examination was conducted on the survivor, Singh said.
The woman described one of the men as having tattoos on his hand and chest, aiding the police in identifying potential suspects. Investigators recovered liquor bottles at the scene, indicating the suspects were intoxicated during the incident.
Police have detained multiple people from the area as part of the ongoing investigation.
