Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has announced a judicial probe into alleged suicide by Deputy Superintendent of Police MK Ganapathy.
M.K. Ganapathy allegedly committed suicide on July 8 at Madikeri in Kodagu district, near Bangalore, and had named Karnataka Minister K. J. George’s son and senior officers in a note accusing them to force him to commit suicide.
“I have ordered a CID inquiry into the death of the DSP (Ganapathy) after I was briefed on Thursday night about the unfortunate incident at Madikeri. I am saddened by it,” Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had said.
The incident came to light later when the Police found Ganapathy’s body hanging from a fan. He had his uniform and his service revolver was around his waist. His body was taken to a government hospital for autopsy in order to find out the cause of death.
In a television interview to a (Kannada) private news channel, Ganapathy had accused two senior IPS officers of harassing him in various cases of corruption.
Police had told IANS that, Ganapathy declared, if anything happened to him, Bengaluru Development Minister and former Home Minster K.J. George, Lokayuktha IGP Pranab Mohanty and Additional Director General of Police (intelligence) AM Prasad would be responsible.
