A woman from Mullanpur Dhaka, a town in Punjab’s Ludhiana and her associates allegedly kidnapped and beat up a travel agent after her nephew, whom the agent had sent to Russia on a visa, was deported back from the airport. The woman tricked the agent by pretending to discuss another visa but instead kidnapped him, took him to Mullanpur, and assaulted him, demanding a refund of Rs 3 lakh that he had charged her nephew, according to the report from Hindustan Times.
The accused have been identified as Jasveer Kaur and her aides—Raju, Bunty (all from Mullanpur), along with Gurbaz Singh, Kamaljit Kaur, and Meva Singh. According to the police, the victim, Lovinder Singh, is a travel agent from New Azad Nagar, Bapu Market, Lohara. He had arranged a Russian visa for Amritpal Singh, Jasveer Kaur’s nephew, charging Rs 3 lakh for the process. Amritpal flew to Russia but was deported back from the airport by the Russian authorities, leading to a dispute over the money.
Angered by this, Jasveer Kaur and her aides planned to get the money back. She called Lovinder Singh near the Verka Milk Plant on Ferozepur Road, pretending that her husband also needed a visa. But as soon as Lovinder arrived, the group kidnapped him, took him to Mullanpur, and assaulted him, demanding a refund, the report mentioned.
Inspector Neeraj Chaudhary, Sarabha Nagar SHO, said Lovinder claimed that Amritpal returned to India on his own, while Amritpal insisted he was deported by Russian authorities. This led to the demand for a refund.
The situation ended when Lovinder managed to contact a mutual acquaintance, who assured the kidnappers that the money would be returned. The accused then released him, and he immediately went to the Sarabha Nagar police to file a complaint.
An FIR has been registered against the accused under various sections related to kidnapping, rioting, unlawful assembly, and criminal conspiracy. The police are searching for the suspects, it added.
