Amid the enforcement of the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections, authorities seized over Rs 8 lakh in cash from two people in separate incidents in Gautam Buddh Nagar on Saturday. The total amount of cash seizures in the constituency has now surpassed Rs 36 lakh.

The first seizure occurred around 1 AM, followed by another incident at approximately 4:30 PM, both in Greater Noida, according to police sources.

“During today’s checking campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, a flying squad team from Dadri and Badalpur police stations intercepted a car at the Dhoom Manikpur underpass,” a police spokesperson said.

Bilal Mohammad, a resident of the Budhana area in Muzaffarnagar district, was found in possession of Rs 3,80,000, exceeding the amount permitted by the Election Commission during the MCC, the spokesperson added.

Later in the day, officials seized Rs 4,99,000 in cash from Sushil Sharma, a resident of Parthala Khanjarpur, after his vehicle was stopped for inspection near Dadha roundabout by members of the flying squad and Kasna police station.

Legal proceedings are underway in both cases, police said.

A senior officer revealed that a total of Rs 36,14,000 in cash has been seized across Noida and Greater Noida in Gautam Buddh Nagar since the implementation of the model code of conduct.

Earlier this week, authorities confiscated around Rs 10 lakh from a doctor in the Badalpur area and Rs 11,58,000 from a vehicle owned by a resident of Delhi on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway in Greater Noida.

While both Muzaffarnagar and Gautam Buddh Nagar in western Uttar Pradesh are scheduled to vote on April 26, certain areas of the state also have elections planned for April 19.
