In a lead-up to the state assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Jana Sena Party (JSP) solidified a seat-sharing agreement in Andhra Pradesh on Monday, aiming to strategically allocate seats among the three parties as they prepare for the upcoming electoral battle.

TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu announced the alliance’s unity, stating that a “formidable seat-sharing formula” has been established among the three parties.

Taking it to X, Naidu posted,”In Amaravati today, the BJP, TDP and JSP forged a formidable seat-sharing formula. With this significant step, the people of Andhra Pradesh now stand on the threshold of reclaiming our state and paving the way for a brighter future. I humbly call upon my people of Andhra Pradesh to shower their blessings upon this alliance, and grant us a historic mandate to serve them.”

“Under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), and the Jana Sena Party (JSP) have decided to contest the ensuing Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh together,” a joint statement of the parties read.

The seat-sharing agreement:

  • Parliamentary elections: BJP to contest from six seats, TDP from 17 seats, and JSP from two seats.
  • Assembly elections: BJP to contest from 10 seats, TDP from 144 seats, and JSP from 21 seats.

The announcement came following a meeting in Amaravati, where Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekawat, BJP National Vice President Baijayant Panda, TDP National President N Chandrababu Naidu, and JSP President Pawan Kalyan participated.

The leaders expressed confidence in the alliance and stressed their collective vision under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Naidu called upon the people of Andhra Pradesh to support the alliance, stating, “I humbly call upon my people of Andhra Pradesh to shower their blessings upon this alliance, and grant us a historic mandate to serve them.”

The seat-sharing details, including the names of constituencies, will be announced subsequently by the respective parties. The TDP, having been part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance until 2018, expressed interest in reviving the alliance after a setback in the 2019 elections.

Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh are scheduled to be held along with the Lok Sabha elections around May-April this year.
