The Election Commission on June 6 reported a robust voter turnout of 65.79% in the recently concluded Lok Sabha Election 2024. However, this figure may see adjustments as postal ballots are yet to be factored in, according to the Election Commission’s announcement.
During a press briefing, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar disclosed that a noteworthy 64.2 crore voters cast their ballots in this electoral cycle. This marks a notable increase from the 2019 elections, where 61.5 crore out of 91.20 crore eligible voters participated, as PTI reported.

In the 2024 polls, India witnessed a considerable expansion in the electorate, with the number swelling to 96.88 crore voters.
The Election Commission explained that the 65.79% turnout they announced is only for votes cast at polling stations using electronic voting machines. They also mentioned that they will release more detailed reports, which will include the count of postal votes and the total number of voters, once all the information is sorted out.
These reports will be put together using data provided by states and Union Territories, following standard procedures.The 2024 Lok Sabha elections have thus underscored significant civic engagement and democratic participation across India, with the final figures expected to be revealed in due course.
