The Congress on Thursday said that seat-sharing talks between the constituents of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in the state for the Lok Sabha elections were “in the last stage” and decision will be announced by the end of February.

Speaking to reporters after chairing a meeting of the state Congress election committee at the party headquarters in Tilak Bhavan, Congress Maharashtra in-charge Ramesh Chennithala said that there are no differences in the alliance over seat adjustments for the forthcoming polls, that are scheduled in March-April this year.

He added that a meeting of the alliance — which also includes NCP-Sharadchandra Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) and Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi — will be held on February 27 and 28.

The MVA alliance was strong and everyone will work unitedly to win maximum seats, he said, adding that talks were underway with Prakash Ambedkar, Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray.

Earlier, in October last year, the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) president Prakash Ambedkar had announced that it will contest on all 48 Lok Sabha seats in the polls. The VBA had entered into an alliance with the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction.

Ambedkar had told The Indian Express that he will be contesting from the Akola seat in Maharashtra. He had said that he was upset over the lack of response from Congress regarding pre-poll alliance.

“We have an alliance with the Shiv Sena (UBT). But in the absence of any clarity, we cannot be just hanging and doing nothing. Time is running out. There are no meetings. Whether it is the Congress, NCP or Shiv Sena (UBT), each are caught up in their own organisational issues. In such a situation where there is no communication or progress, we have decided to chart our own political roadmap. We have decided to contest all 48 seats alone in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections,” Ambedkar had told IE.
