When Delhi CM Rekha Gupta rejected ‘Sheesh Mahal’

After taking oath as Delhi’s Chief Minister in February, Gupta had announced that she would not live in ex-CM Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence at 6 Flagstaff Road. The AAP leader’s official residence had drawn criticism for its lavish renovations. The bungalow has been referred to as the “Sheesh Mahal” by the BJP. Gupta had said that the place would instead be turned into a museum.

The BJP had strongly criticised Kejriwal over the expensive makeover of the bungalow, which spans 40,000 square yards. A report by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), released in October 2024, revealed costly renovations and luxury items installed at the property.

Kejriwal stayed at the house from 2015 until he resigned in October 2024, following growing political pressure and questions raised by the BJP.
