The India Habitat Centre (IHC) has appointed veteran journalist and former head of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Professor KG Suresh, as its new Director, the IHC said in a statement.
A media educator and communication strategist, Prof Suresh brings over three decades of experience across journalism, teaching, and institution building. His leadership comes at a time when IHC is focused on strengthening its role as a vibrant hub for culture, dialogue, and community engagement. He has led some of India’s most respected media and educational institutions.
As vice-chancellor of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication (MCU), Bhopal, he introduced curriculum reforms, expanded industry-academia collaborations, and oversaw the development of two new campuses in Bhopal and Rewa. During his tenure, MCU also implemented the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, established a community radio station, and launched new courses aligned with evolving media landscapes.
He has earlier served as director general of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), where he promoted journalism education in Indian languages and introduced new departments focused on emerging media trends. He also founded the School of Modern Media at UPES Dehradun and established the Global Media Education Council (GMEC) to foster international cooperation in media studies.
In addition to his academic leadership, Prof. Suresh has held senior editorial roles with Doordarshan News, Press Trust of India (PTI), and AsiaNet News Network. A recipient of the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Award and the PRSI Leadership Award, he is widely respected for blending academic excellence with practical media experience.
