Kerala local body election phase 2 polling turnout tracker Highlights: The overall voter turnout across the seven districts voting in Phase 2 of the Kerala local body elections reached 25.81% as of 11 am. Polling is underway in more than 12,000 wards across Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. Voters are electing representatives to municipal corporations, municipalities, gram panchayats, block panchayats and district panchayats.

Thursday’s polling comes two days after the first phase was held in 595 local bodies across seven districts – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam. Votes for both phases will be counted and results declared on December 13. Mattannur municipality in Kannur is not voting this time, as its elections are scheduled for September 2027. The State Election Commission has said that all arrangements are in place to ensure smooth and fair polling across the districts.

Polling timings

Polling is currently underway and will continue till 6 pm. The election in the Payimbadam ward of Moothedam panchayat in Malappuram has been postponed after the death of UDF candidate Vattath Haseena.

Around 1.53 crore people are eligible to vote in this phase, including 80.90 lakh women, 72.46 lakh men and 161 transgender voters. The list also includes 3,293 overseas voters.

Candidates and voter details

There are 38,994 candidates in the fray: 28,274 for grama panchayats, 3,742 for block panchayats, 681 for district panchayats, 5,546 for municipalities and 751 for the corporations of Kozhikode, Kannur and Thrissur.

The SEC has set up 18,274 polling stations. Of the total booths, 2,055 are marked ‘sensitive’, with Kannur having the highest number at 1,025. These locations will have live webcasting and videography.

Result announcement

Counting of votes will start at 8 am on December 13 at centres across the state. The SEC’s TREND software will provide real-time updates. Phase I of the elections was held on Tuesday in the seven southern districts – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Alappuzha and Ernakulam.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday alleged that the Congress has “womanisers” and “sexual perverts”, prompting senior party leader Ramesh Chennithala to hit back, stating that the CM should first control and stop protecting such persons in LDF.

Vijayan, while speaking to reporters after casting his vote for local body polls in Kannur, referred to the multiple allegations of sexual assault against expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil and said, “Look at what these womanisers are doing”.

“If you examine the evidence on record and the concerns raised by the victims who came forward, you can see that their complaints were delayed as they were afraid for their lives. They got death threats, hence they were scared.
