Following his resignation as Delhi Chief Minister on Tuesday, Arvind Kejriwal is now concentrating on energising the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) cadre and rebuilding trust among voters ahead of upcoming assembly elections, a senior party functionary stated. Kejriwal’s prolonged detention on corruption charges weakened the party’s grassroots base, and his immediate priority is to revitalize the organization.
Kejriwal, who remains the AAP’s national convener, is set to lead major campaigning efforts in Haryana, where elections are scheduled for October 5. He is also expected to hold roadshows in key constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, where elections will take place in three phases ending on October 1.
In Delhi, where assembly elections are likely to be held in February 2025, Kejriwal plans a robust, ward-wise door-to-door campaign. A senior leader said, “We have four months to strategize and regain the trust of the people. Kejriwal can restore confidence in the party.”
Despite his arrest, the party’s support base remained resilient. “Our workers were eager to see him back, and now he will reconnect with them and reignite their hopes,” the leader added.
Kejriwal’s campaign efforts will also extend to Punjab, where AAP holds power, as well as Haryana, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra. His rallies and roadshows are expected to strengthen the party’s prospects in these regions.
After being released from Tihar jail on September 13, Kejriwal emphasized the importance of honesty in leadership. “I will only take the CM’s chair again if the people give me a certificate of honesty,” he said, signalling his intent to reclaim his position through public support.
Kejriwal also called for Delhi elections to be held in November alongside those in Maharashtra, adding further momentum to his plans to strengthen AAP’s position in key states.
