A married woman was allegedly raped and her husband beaten and thrashed by a group of six men in Karnataka’s Koppal district, police said, according to ANI.

The accused in the matter, identified as Lingaraja, Moula Hussain, Shivakumar Swamy, Prashanta, Mahesh, and Madesh, were apprehended by the police after the victim filed a complaint.

The incident occurred at a park near a bus stop in Gangavathi, Koppal district, on February 8

According to the police, the couple was involved in a heated argument over a domestic dispute at the bus stop, prompting the intervention of the six men. Subsequently, they assaulted the victim’s husband, and Lingaraja, one of the accused, allegedly raped the woman.

Deputy Superintendent of Police in Gangavati, Siddalingappa Gowda Patil stated: “They dragged woman, thrashed her husband, and one of the accused, Lingaraja, raped her.”

DCP further added that following the rape, the victim was allegedly subjected to abuse and harassment.

This incident comes on the heels of a similar occurrence a month ago in Hangal, Haveri district, where a couple was attacked by a group of men for the perceived offense of being together despite practicing different faiths. In that case, the woman later claimed to have been a victim of gang rape.
