The Karnataka government is set to unveil its ‘Knowledge Health Innovation Research-City’ (KHIR-City) project, the first of its kind in India, at a launch ceremony on September 26. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will officially kickstart the project’s first phase at a ceremony held in Vidhana Soudha, marking the beginning of an ambitious venture that aims to revolutionize healthcare, innovation, and research in the state.

KHIR-City will span 2,000 acres, with the first phase of development covering 500 acres. The estimated investment for the project exceeds Rs 40,000 crore and is expected to create around one lakh direct and indirect jobs, according to official sources, reported PTI.

Inspired by international innovation hubs like Singapore’s Biopolis and the Research Triangle Park in the U.S., KHIR-City aims to establish Karnataka as a global leader in research and development. The project will also incorporate elements from Bengaluru’s iconic Electronics City. Strategically located between Doddaballapura and Dobaspet, approximately 50 kilometers from Kempegowda International Airport, KHIR-City is poised to become a key driver of the state’s economy.

The city will host world-class universities, state-of-the-art hospitals, cutting-edge research institutions, and innovative industries, contributing to economic growth and boosting exports. This visionary project is expected to transform Karnataka into a hub of knowledge, health, and innovation on the global stage.
