Amid reports of resentment brewing among a section of Congress legislators over the induction of four party MLAs as ministers, Chief Minister Champai Soren said on Sunday that the JMM-led alliance in Jharkhand is “strong” and there is no threat to the coalition government in the state.

Soren made the remarks after meeting Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi.

Speaking to reporters, Soren said that it was a courtesy meeting with Kharge after he charge as the CM of the state.

Soren also said that the discontent among certain Congress MLAs regarding the recent cabinet formation was an internal matter of the Congress party. “This is an internal matter of the Congress, they will resolve it. I have nothing to say about that. There is no conflict between the JMM and Congress, and everything is absolutely fine,” Soren said.

The JMM-led alliance in the state has 47 MLAs (JMM-29, Congress-17 and one RJD) in the 81-member assembly.

A day after eight MLAs were sworn in as Cabinet Ministers in Jharkhand, some Congress legislators were displeased with the party’s choice to reappoint Alamgir Alam, Rameshwar Oraon, Banna Gupta, and Badal Patralekh to ministerial positions again in the Soren-led JMM government.

All of them convened at a hotel in Ranchi on Saturday. Basant Soren, the newest minister from the JMM and the youngest son of party leader Shibu Soren, reached there in an attempt to convince them to reconsider their stance.

After meeting the MLAs, Basant Soren said that the alliance is united and there is no confusion.

Champai Soren took over as Jharkhand CM amidst political storm, following the arrest of former CM Hemant Soren by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged land scam case.
