An Army officer and two militants were killed in an encounter in south Kashmir?s Shopian district on Friday.
The militants were found in a house in Montoo mollah by the Army and a Special Operation Group of the J&K Police during a search operation. In an encounter that ensued, the two militants were killed and the Army Major and a soldier were injured. The Major later succumbed to his injuries.
Officials said they had reports that another militant was still in the house. The Army has now cordoned off the house and suspended the operation for the night.
On Thursday evening, a poll officer was killed by militants who attacked a vehicle ferrying poll staff in Shopian. Five people, including three security personnel, were injured in the attack.
Officials said they couldn?t ascertain if the two militants killed Friday were the same that attacked the vehicle Thursday as their bodies have not been recovered.
