Security forces gunned down two terrorists in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday amid an infiltration bid in the Nowshera Naar area. The slain terrorists included Bagu Khan — known as the Human GPS — who was responsible for at least 100 infiltration attempts.

According to reports, Khan had been active in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir since 1995. He was considered the biggest link to infiltrators in the Kashmir valley with detailed knowledge of secret routes. He was also believed to be an excellent navigator who knew his way around the difficult geographical conditions of the area. The ‘Human GPS’ was a Hizbul commander who had reportedly helped almost every terrorist organisation infiltrate from Gurez and the surrounding sectors.

Reports quoting security forces indicated that Bagu Khan was shot dead along with another terrorist during an infiltration attempt from the Nowshera Naar area on Saturday.

JK Police chief, BSF ADG review security along Indo-Pak border

Top security officials in Jammu and Kashmir separately reviewed security in the area on Saturday following flash floods in the region. Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat and BSF ADG, Western Command, S S Khandare, both visited the International Border (in Kathua and Jammu districts) ahead of a likely visit by Home Minister Amit Shah. The Union Minister is likely to take stock of the situation after torrential rains triggered floods across the region and left behind a trail of death and destruction.

Official sources told PTI that the flooding has caused extensive damage to the border grid — including fencing and the border outposts along the IB and the Line of Control in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts. The security forces are maintaining the highest vigil to foil any attempt by terrorists to take advantage of the situation to sneak into Indian territory.

Search operation in Poonch

Security forces also launched a cordon and search operation along the border belt on Saturday — spanning 11 localities in Poonch district after reports of suspicious movement. According to a PTI report, operations were carried out in several key areas after residents alerted security agencies. Additional reinforcement was later deployed in the area and security measures ramped up.
