In a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, October 4, 2024. According to the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, two militants were killed in the exchange of gunfire that followed after troops detected suspicious activity in the Gugaldhar area near the Line of Control (LoC).

The operation was initiated based on intelligence inputs that indicated a possible infiltration attempt in the heavily guarded Kupwara region, a known hotspot for militant activity due to its proximity to the LoC. The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps, which oversees security in the Kashmir Valley, swiftly acted upon the intelligence, and a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police was launched.

“On 04 Oct 2024, based on intelligence about an infiltration attempt, a joint operation by the Indian Army and J&K Police was launched at Gugaldhar, Kupwara. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, leading to an exchange of firing with terrorists. Vigilant troops carried out effective fire,” the Chinar Corps said in a statement released on Twitter.

Upon detecting movement in the Gugaldhar area, the alert troops challenged the suspected infiltrators, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire. In the ensuing firefight, two militants were neutralised by the Indian forces.

At the time of reporting, the operation was still ongoing. Security forces are conducting a thorough search of the area to ensure there are no remaining militants in the vicinity. The Army has been known to comb these regions carefully to clear any threats, often uncovering hidden arms caches or additional infiltrators during follow-up searches.

This operation underscores the Indian Army’s vigilance and readiness in protecting the nation’s borders from cross-border terrorism. The joint efforts of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have once again proved effective in neutralising threats in a highly sensitive region.

As infiltration attempts continue to challenge security forces, the Indian Army remains committed to securing peace and stability in the Kashmir Valley, with vigilant troops standing guard along the LoC.
