Jaipur-Ajmer Highway Truck Accident: A tragic accident occurred on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway on Friday morning when a truck loaded with chemicals collided with multiple vehicles and subsequently caught fire. According to police reports, the incident has claimed eight lives and left 37 people injured. Several individuals sustained burn injuries in the accident, officials added.
Initial investigations disclosed that the truck involved in the collision was carrying chemicals, which caught fire. Bhankrota Station House Officer (SHO) Manish Gupta stated to PTI, “The fire engulfed several trucks. The exact number of vehicles involved in the accident has not been confirmed yet. Some people with burn injuries have been rushed to hospitals in ambulances.”
The severity of the incident was heightened as it took place near a petrol pump. However, the fire has been brought under control, with fire brigades actively working at the site.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma visited SMS Hospital to check on the injured and discuss their treatment with the medical staff. He has issued instructions to ensure proper arrangements for their care. Around 25 ambulances were used to shift patients the hospitals.
On his social media account on X, the chief minister posted, ‘’Deeply disheartened to hear the news of deaths in the gas tanker fire incident on the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway. As soon as the information related to the incident was received, I went to the hospital and instructed the doctors to provide all the immediate necessary medical facilities and take proper care of the injured.’’
As a precautionary measure, traffic on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway has been halted to prevent further mishaps. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation. Around a 300-metre stretch of the highway has been impacted because of the accident. Long queues of vehicles have also been reported on the highway.
Rajasthan’s Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar stated, ‘’All doctors, resident doctors and nursing staff has been brought in to manage the situation. One more ward has been opened so that more patients can get admitted. Some of the injured people has also received primary medical aid at the nearby hospital.’’
A ‘green corridor’ has been made from the accident site to the SMS Hospital, Khimsar added. As per an officer, a sleeper bus headed for Jaipur from Rajsamand was behind the gas tanker when the accident took place. Efforts are currently been going on find out the details of the passengers who were on the bus.
