With MCD polls just a few days away, the Income Tax department has seized about Rs 1.25 crores in new currency notes from the national capital. These notes were recovered from 3 vehicles by police in Seelampur. The Election Commission of India has been informed about the incident. India has also been facing the problem of fake currency for a while now and a major step was taken by the Narendra Modi-led government when it demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes last year.

However, even then many cases of fake currency notes in circulation have been reported. Three men were arrested on Saturday afternoon for alleged involvement in supplying fake Rs 100 notes between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Police had recovered currency of face value Rs 1.40 lakh. The fake notes were circulated in the weekly markets of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The accused used to hide the fake notes in bundles of original notes so that they could be supplied easily,” said a senior police officer after recovering a high-quality printing machine along with the notes.
