Amid the raging Israel-Hamas war, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi gave information about the crucial call between him and his Israeli counterpart.
Israeli PM dialed Modi at a time when his forces are targeting the key targets of the militant group located in Gaza. “I thank Prime Minister @netanyahu for his phone call and providing an update on the ongoing situation,” PM Modi said in his post. He also said that “People of India stand firmly with Israel in this difficult hour. India strongly and unequivocally condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”
PM Modi had reacted to the unprecedented attack on Israel by Hamas earlier as well. He said that he was “deeply shocked” by the news.
About 18,000 Indian nationals residing and working in Israel. There are no reports so far of any incidents involving the Indian residents in the country.
Advisories were issued by the Indian mission in Tel Aviv and the Representative Office of India in Palestine. The advisories asked the Indian nationals on both sides to stay “vigilant”. They were also advised to “directly contact” the Office in case of any emergency.
It has been four days since Israel declared war against Hamas. Hamas had attacked Israel on a major Jewish holiday on Saturday, October 7, 2023.
Hamas forces invaded Israeli territory which claimed the lives of more than 700 people. The death toll has risen over the four days of battle.
Israel’s military ordered a complete siege on the Gaza strip on October 9, 2023. It has halted delivery of food, water, fuel and other supplies.
Israel has received support and sympathies from various countries in the world. The US, UK, Australia, France, Norway and Austria are backing Israel’s right to self-defense.
India has also extended its sympathies and support to Israel.
