The Andhra Pradesh government has suspended N Sanjay, a former Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and senior IPS officer, after an inquiry by the Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) wing allegedly found that he misappropriated Rs 1 crore. The alleged misuse occurred during his tenure as Director General of AP State Disaster Response and Fire Services, according to The Indian Express.

Sanjay, a 1996-batch officer, gained prominence as the CID chief, handling several high-profile cases, including the AP Skill Development Corporation scam, where TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu was named as an accused. On September 23 last year, Sanjay supervised the operation in which Naidu was arrested by CID officers at dawn in Nandyal.

According to the V&E report, Sanjay floated tenders for creating a web portal and supplying hardware but colluded with Vijayawada-based Sauthrika Technologies and Infra Private Limited to process payments, despite only 14% of the work being completed.

The report also accuses Sanjay of authorizing payments of Rs 59,52,500 and Rs 59,51,500 for a scheduled SC and ST awareness workshop. The payments were made to Kritvyap Technologies Pvt Ltd of Hyderabad. However, the inquiry found no such company existed at the provided address, which instead housed Sauthrika Technologies and Infra Private Limited.

Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad issued a two-page order, stating that after examining the reports, the government concluded Sanjay misused government funds. As a result, it decided to suspend him pending further investigation. The order also directed that Sanjay remain stationed at police headquarters and barred him from leaving without government permission.
