Indian airports have been put on high alert amid an escalating conflict with Pakistan — with airlines calling for passengers to reach at least three hours in advance. The development came soon after authorities ordered all passengers at all airports to undergo secondary checks and announced a slew of additional security measures.
“”In view of an order by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security on enhanced measures at airports, passengers across India are advised to arrive at their respective airports at least three hours prior to scheduled departure to ensure smooth check-in and boarding. Check-in closes 75 mins before departure,” wrote the official Air India handle.
Akasa Air also issued a similar message calling for passengers to report three hours in advance, and carry relevant documents for entry into the airport. An update shared via social media said that all passengers would be “required to undergo secondary security checks prior to boarding”.
“In these extraordinary times, heightened security measures are taken up across all airports. We request you to allow some extra time for your journey to accommodate security checks and formalities. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation,” added IndiGo airlines.
The developments came even as several airports remained shut and hundreds of flights were cancelled following Operation Sindoor. Visitor entry to terminals were also halted this week and airport operators have been ordered to ensure that all CCTV cameras were in working condition.
