The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecasts for heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in Tamil Nadu. Moreover, Kerala is expected to experience heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds from October 22 to October 25.
The Met Office also informed that the Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm “Tej” is currently situated over the west-central and adjacent southwest Arabian Sea. It is expected to track northwestwards and make landfall along the coasts of Yemen and Oman. The landfall is projected to occur between Al Ghaidah in Yemen and Salalah in Oman, with the storm passing just east of Al Ghaidah, Yemen. This landfall event is anticipated to take place around noon on the 24th of October, with the storm classified as a very severe cyclonic storm at that time.
According to IMD, a depression situated over the west-central Bay of Bengal is expected to follow a northwestern trajectory over the next 12 hours. “Depression over west-central Bay of Bengal is likely to move northwestwards during next 12 hours, then recurve and move north-northeastwards during subsequent 3 days towards Bangladesh & adjoining West Bengal coasts,” IMD said.
Clear sky in Delhi today
The IMD predicted a mainly clear sky for Monday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle around 31 and 17 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The meteorological department reported that Delhi experienced “very poor” air quality on Sunday, with a maximum temperature of 31.3 degrees Celsius, slightly below the seasonal average. The minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 15.6 degrees Celsius, which was three notches below the normal seasonal temperature.
Cyclone ‘Tej’ update
The National Weather Agency has issued an advisory for fishermen regarding the approaching cyclonic storm “Tej.” They are strongly advised not to venture into the southwest Arabian Sea until October 25 and the west central Arabian Sea until the night of October 25. In addition, the IMD has recommended that fishermen currently at sea should return to the coast for safety.
“Light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy rainfall is likely on 24th and 25th October in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura. Coastal Districts of Odisha are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall at a few places…Light to moderate rainfall at many places is likely in coastal Districts of West Bengal on 24th and 25th October,” said the weather agency.
Region-wise rainfall warning
In South India, during the week, there is an expectation of light to moderate rainfall in numerous areas, with isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds anticipated in Kerala on October 23. Additionally, Tamil Nadu is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall in isolated locations, with the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Meanwhile, in Northwest India, light to moderate rainfall is expected in certain areas, including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on October 23.
