Heatwave conditions persist in isolated areas of North Interior Karnataka while light to moderate rainfall/snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms has been observed in most regions. Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad is forecasted to experience light rainfall/snowfall in isolated areas. Over the next five days, light to medium rain or snow is anticipated in the Western Himalayan region, with a chance of light rain or drizzle in the adjacent plains of Northwest India until April 5th, 2024.

Heatwave warning
The IMD has issued a heatwave warning for North Interior Karnataka, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, effective until April 6th.
Rainfall forecast
Rainfall and thunderstorm activity are forecasted for Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, with light/moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. Isolated areas in West Bengal, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Kerala may also experience light/moderate rainfall.
Arunachal Pradesh witnessed heavy rainfall in isolated places, with a forecast of widespread light/moderate rainfall/snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Scattered to widespread rainfall is expected in Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.
Warm night conditions are expected in Odisha until April 6th, while hot and humid weather is predicted to affect Coastal Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Telangana, and South Interior Karnataka.
IMD’s orange alert in Northeast
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier on Sunday issued an orange alert for the Northeast region. Flight schedules faced disruption, leading to six flights being diverted to Agartala and Kolkata due to adverse weather conditions. Passengers encountered difficulties at Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport as water ingress and structural damage occurred during a severe storm.
