The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that a well marked low pressure area over Southeast and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression over West Central Bay of Bengal on Sunday. The Met Office also added that it will move north north-eastwards towards Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts and intensify further during subsequent 3 days.  The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into sea till October 26th as the sea condition will be rough. 

It further said that Cyclonic storm “Tej” over Southwest Arabian Sea is very likely to intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm during the forenoon today, further into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm during subsequent 24 hours and will cross Yemen-Oman coasts between Al Ghaidah (Yemen) and Salalah (Oman) around early morning of October 25. Meanwhile, under the influence of these atmospheric conditions; the northeast Monsoon rainfall activity has commenced over Tamil Nadu and Kerala. 

Weather warnings

The weather office has predicted that light to moderate rainfall would occur at most places with isolated heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds over Kerala till October 25. Light to moderate rainfall at some places with isolated heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning very likely over Tamil Nadu today.

A look at weather conditions across few states:- 

Odisha

IMD forecast light to moderate rainfall in certain parts of Odisha on October 23 and 24. The light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri on October 23.

West Bengal

The IMD predicted that there will be “very light to light rain” likely at one or two places over coastal Purba Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas districts of West Bengal and adjoining pockets in Howrah and Kolkata. There will be mainly dry weather likely over the rest of the districts of South Bengal on October 24, the day of Bijoya Dashami, the last day of the festival and October 25.

Delhi

The weather department has predicted partly cloudy sky with a possibility of drizzle towards night on Sunday. The maximum and minimum temperatures in the national capital are likely to settle around 32 and 17 degrees Celsius. On Saturday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 15.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season’s average.
