India’s Operation Sindoor: Coming days after the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian forces and the Ministry of Defence launched the Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7. After scheduling nationwide civil defence mock drills, India struck known terror camps in Pakistan, parts of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Mudrike which is just 30km away from Lahore. Located in Pakistan’s Punjab, Mudrike has been known Headquarters of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) since 1990. The terrorist group, led by Hafiz Saeed has been held responsible for the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.
The Indian Army has firmly maintained that its Operation Sindoor were precise, restrained, and not intended to escalate tensions, emphasizing that no Pakistani military installations were targeted. While the details about the terror attack remain scarce, the terrorist infrastructure hit in Pakistan has reportedly taken lives of three civilians. As per the Indian Army, the Pakistan Army resorted to arbitrary firing, including Artillery shelling from posts across the Line of Control and IB opposite J&K. Three innocent civilians lost their lives in indiscriminate firing/shelling. Indian Army are responding in a proportionate manner.

Other locations hit were near Muridke in Punjab and Kotli in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir. The airstike was made from within the Indian airspace. Although it has significantly impacted commercial air traffic. India’s armed forces used precision strike weapon systems to carry out the strikes, which targeted the headquarters of militant groups Jaish-e-Mohammed in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke, according to officials.
Stephane Dujarric, the United Nations spokesperson, said in a statement late Tuesday that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was “very concerned about the Indian military operations across the Line of Control and international border” and called for maximum military restraint from both countries. “The world cannot afford a military confrontation between India and Pakistan,” the statement.
While further updates are still awaited, Mudrike was one of the nine sites attacked by India. As a response to the Pahalgam terror attack and an effort against terrorism, Operation Sindoor is a strong response two weeks after a cold-war like situation engulfing the Indus Water Treaty, airspace wars and more.
