India has demanded that Pakistan take strong action against Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar. This comes following a report on Azhar’s recent speech at a public gathering in Bahawalpur.
Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), said that if the report in the speech is correct, then it exposes Pakistan’s “duplicity” in containing terrorist activities.
“We demand that strong action be taken against him (Azhar) and he should be brought to justice. There has been denial that he is not there in Pakistan,” Jaiswal said.
“If the reports are correct, then it exposes the duplicity of Pakistan. Masood Azhar is involved in cross-border terror attacks on India and we want that strong action be taken against him,” he added.
Jaiswal made the remarks in response to a question at his weekly media briefing.
Azhar, the leader of the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and a UN-designated terrorist, vowed in a recent speech to intensify jihadist operations targeting India and Israel with the aim of establishing a global Islamic order.
Delivered through an online platform, the speech reportedly contained explicit threats against India, including the statement, “India, your death is coming.” Azhar also criticised political figures such as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, using inflammatory language to denounce their policies and leadership.
