Every year, the day is marked with a series of patriotic events with Prime Minister Narendra Modi kickstarting the festivities with an address from the ramparts of the Red Fort. This year, it will be PM Modi’s 11th consecutive address on the occasion of Independence Day. The speech is expected to begin at 7.30 am on Friday.
The theme for the 78th Independence Day is “Viksit Bharat”. It reflects the central government’s vision to transform the country into a developed nation by 2047, the 100th year of its freedom from colonial rule.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech will be telecast live on Doordarshan, India’s public service broadcaster on August 15 at 7.30 am.
