In preparation for Independence Day celebrations, Delhi Police has announced a traffic advisory and imposed restrictions around the Red Fort area on Thursday (August 15) to ensure smooth operations and enhance security for attendees. 

The police have reiterated the ban on the operation of sub-conventional aerial platforms such as para-gliders, UAVs, hot air balloons, and small aircraft, which has been in place since August 1. This restriction will remain effective until Thursday.

Road closures in Delhi 

Key road closures on Thursday include Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road, and its connecting road to Netaji Subhash Marg, as well as Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT and Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP Flyover.

Vehicles lacking parking permits for the Independence Day event should avoid C-Hexagon, India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, W Point, A Point Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, JL Nehru Marg, and Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmere Gate. The Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmere Gate via Salimgarh bypass will also be restricted.

Members of the public are advised not to bring cameras, binoculars, remote controls, umbrellas, handbags, briefcases, transistors, lighters, tiffin boxes, or water bottles. Any suspicious objects should be reported immediately to the nearest police officer.

Alternative routes

For north-south travel, alternative routes include Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjang Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Kautilya Marg, SP Marg, 11 Murti, Mother Teresa Crescent, Park Street, Mandir Marg, Panchkulan Road, and Rani Jhansi Road. For east-west travel, options include NH-24 (NH-9) Nizamuddin Khatta, Barapula Road, under AllMS Flyover Ring Road, Bhairon Road, Mathura Road, Subramanian Bharti Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Prithviraj Road, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Panchsheel Marg, and SP Marg/Ridge Road.

The Old Iron Bridge and Geeta Colony Bridge towards Shanti Van will be closed on Thursday. Goods vehicles will be barred from traveling between Nizamuddin Khatta and Wazirabad Bridge from midnight on Wednesday until 11 am on Thursday. Interstate buses will not be permitted between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT during the same period.

Changes in bus routes

Local city buses, including those operated by DTC, should avoid Ring Road between ISBT Kashmere Gate and Ring Road – NH-24 (NH-9)/NH T-point (Nizamuddin Khatta) from midnight Wednesday to 11 am Thursday and use alternative routes. Buses that usually terminate at Old Delhi Railway Station, Red Fort, Bhai Mati Dass Chowk, Mon Gate, ISBT Pragati Maidan, and Ambedkar Stadium Terminal will now end at Turkman Gate on Asaf Ali Road.
