As North India braces itself for the next couple of days, dense to very dense fog conditions are expected to persist in various regions, affecting visibility and causing potential disruptions. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for dense fog and cold day conditions in various states. The minimum temperatures are anticipated to remain low, leading to cold day to severe cold day conditions.
Dense fog conditions
The IMD predicts dense to very dense fog conditions in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh during the nights and mornings from January 25-30. Delhi is also expected to experience dense fog on the morning of January 26.
Additionally, isolated pockets of Uttarakhand and Rajasthan are likely to be affected by dense fog from January 26-27. The states of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Mizoram, Tripura, and Odisha are also cautioned to experience dense fog during this period.
Cold day to severe cold day conditions and snowfall update
Cold day to severe cold day conditions are expected to persist over North India for the next two days, followed by a decrease in intensity thereafter. The cold wave is expected to grip various parts of North India, with East and West Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Bihar, and West Rajasthan witnessing cold day to severe cold day conditions till January 29.
Two Western Disturbances are influencing the Western Himalayan Region, resulting in light isolated rainfall/snowfall till January 31.
The minimum temperatures in Northwest India are anticipated to gradually rise by 2-3°C over the next 4-5 days. In Central India, no significant change in minimum temperatures is expected in the next 24 hours, followed by a rise of 2-3°C in the subsequent 3 days.
West India, specifically Maharashtra, is likely to experience a gradual rise in minimum temperatures for the next 3 days, while Gujarat is expected to see a rise of 2-3°C in the next 4 days.
Rainfall over Andhra, Karnataka and more
Light rainfall is also expected in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha in the next 24 hours due to a trough from South Interior Karnataka to south Odisha coast. Furthermore, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and northeast India may witness light rainfall in the next 2 days.
The IMD has reported strong jet core winds over Bangladesh and adjoining Tripura, leading to light rainfall in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and northeast India over the next two days. Andaman & Nicobar Islands are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall from January 26-27.
