As many parts of the country continue to experience dense fog, the cold wave condition is likely to continue over the plains of Northwest India during the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated.
Parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan will experience cold days to severe cold day conditions today and tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the winter break in Delhi has been extended till January 12 for students from nursery to Class 5 amid biting cold weather conditions.
“Cold to severe cold conditions prevailed at many places over Haryana, a few places over Rajasthan, and some pockets over Punjab. Cold day conditions prevailed at a few places over Delhi and isolated pockets over north M.P.,” the IMD mentioned in a post on ‘X’.
Fog conditions to prevail in part of the country
As per the weather forecast agency, dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail in night/morning hours in some parts of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, and a few pockets of Haryana during January 08 and January 09.
Isolated pockets of Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura to experience prevailing fog conditions on January 08 and January 09.
As per IMD, states like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi recorded minimum temperatures in the range of 6-9°C. It is above normal by 1-3°C in isolated pockets over of the northern states.
Rains showers in southern states & Snowfall in Hilly regions
Light to moderate rainfall in some places is likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Lakshadweep during the next 4-5 days.
Further, isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh during the next two days.
Light isolated rainfall/snowfall is predicted over Hilly regions including Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on January 9. Isolated hailstorms are also likely over east Rajasthan and over West Madhya Pradesh during the next two days.
