Mumbai Rain Alert: Light to moderate showers continued to lash Mumbai on Monday with some of the areas receiving 100 mm of rain over the last 24 hours. The intermittent rainfall hit the local train services with delays being reported on some sections. The India Meteorology Department (IMD) has meanwhile sounded an orange alert in the maximum city, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday.

Not just Mumbai, several districts of Maharashtra has been receiving moderate to heavy rainfall for the past few days, increasing the risk of flood in some of the them. Nashik, Palghar, Thane, Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Raigad and Pune have been put on red alert, with the prediction of overcast skies and extremely heavy rain. 

Orange, yellow alert issued in several districts

Most of the districts in Maharashtra have been put under orange and yellow alert with the IMD predicting heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy rainfall at certain areas. Mumbai continued to witness light showers on Monday morning and more rain is likely to keep the weather moist.  

In the 24 hours ending at 8 am on Monday, the island city recorded 74.85 mm of rainfall, while the eastern and western suburbs received 77.89 mm and 99.44 mm of rainfall, respectively, a civic official said, quoted PTI.  The official added that there will be a high tide of 3.01 metres at 3.27 pm, and a low tide of 1.58 metres at 9.36 pm.

Meanwhile, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Wardha, Yavatmal, Amravati, Akola, Buldhana, Jalna, Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Nanded, Hingoli, Parbhani, Beed, Latur, Osmanabad, Solapur, Sangli and Kolhapur — have been reportedly kept under a yellow alert by the IMD.

Palghar on red alert, schools closed

The IMD has put Palghar under red alert predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at several places. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are predicted to occur along with showers on Monday (September 29). 

The alert comes as the district and nearby areas continue to reel under the effect of continuous rain. Meanwhile, according to HT, district collector Manik Gursal announced a holiday for all government and private schools, Anganwadis, Zilla Parishad schools, municipal schools, and aided institutions in Palghar on Monday.
