1. The job: The most stimulating aspect of my job is the challenges I need to overcome on a day-to-day basis. The idea of transforming a very large and traditional industry inspires me to get up and head to work. PolicyBazaar is a fairly new organisation and requires a lot of strategic thinking.
Having a vision and coming up with a tactical and calculated plan to implement it brings great joy to me as a professional. Also, most people are distrustful and hesitant about insurance and don?t understand its importance in their lives. As part of my job I get to change mindsets and help secure the financial future of ordinary people. Finally, I get the opportunity to associate with a diverse and talented team of individuals which makes work exciting every day.
Being an entrepreneur is exciting, but it has its downsides for sure, the biggest being the stress that comes with the job. The long work hours can get a bit tedious. I work in Gurgaon but my family lives in London, so staying away from them takes a toll on me from time to time. Also, insurance is India as an industry is quite rigid and unyielding which can sometimes create a sense of frustration.
2. The weekdays: I start my day at 5am/6 am with either a run or a swim depending on the weather. I leave for work around 8 am to reach office by 10, as I live in Noida.
My work hours are split equally between managing the strategic and the operational activities of PolicyBazaar. I take sales
updates at 2 pm, 5 pm and 7.30 pm every day. Other activities are centred on reviews,
team management and business development. Also, there is always something or the other that needs to be managed. My day ends at about 8 pm and then there is the drive back to Noida. I travel twice a week and have 3-4 business meetings a week. I try to spend time bonding with my team by going out for a bite once a month.
3. The weekend: I am mostly shooting for our shows on business channels on weekends. Other than that, I take some time to relax by lazing around. I go for a run or swim to unwind or spend some time reading. I also spend some time planning my week ahead.
4. The toys: I?m not crazy about gadgets. I personally feel that given the amount of time one ends up spending with mobiles, tablets, computers there really isn?t any jazz left to it. I do enjoy driving.
5. The logos: Some of my favourite brands are Asics, Speedo, Quechua, Levis and Apple..
