The job: I love the fact that everyday is a new challenge with new highs and new lows! But more than that I love the fact that my team and I wake up everyday ready to tackle them. I love working with young, smart and energetic individuals; we are all from diverse backgrounds but with one goal — it’s only when we leverage our diversity are we able to think beyond today. Did I mention I love shoes!
The weekdays: Lately, and it wasn?t the case for the past one and a half years, I have resumed my 6am gym routine. I am at the office by 9am. I prefer to be in early as it?s the best time to catch up on things before the meetings/endless phone calls and emails really start. I am usually at work till about 9pm, then head home, have a quick dinner and log back on. Nice thing about working for an internet company is that you can be anywhere as long as you are disciplined and organised. The evening hours are typically dedicated to catching up with the engineering team (they prefer late nights and video calls!). My day usually ends between midnight and 1am. The fun things during the week usually include a working lunch with each department on rotation — it?s a great time for me to personally meet the staff and also allow them to freely speak and make suggestions or complaints. It is important to provide the team with a good and open work environment. Such casual settings are conducive to sharing both ideas and or complaints.
The weekend: Saturdays are spent in the call centre — there is a chance if you call our customer care on Saturday you might be speaking to me. I like to hear from both our employees and our customers what they like and dislike. We also have training and other fun events at our call centre — it?s important to me that our employees there are passionate about the company, hopefully that will also make our customer experience better!
Saturday evening starts the weekend — usually my wife and I hit the town and go for a nice dinner somewhere, and Sundays are usually lazy, a nice brunch with friends and a bit of shopping or we catch a movie. I try to dedicate Sunday to family and our dog!
The toys: To be honest, I am not a huge gadget person, at least not for the sake of having them. I have a BlackBerry and a XBox Kinect — one is practical and the other is just outright fun!
The logos: I am very loyal to Gap Jeans, J Crew, Brooks Brothers and Banana Republic. When it comes to shoes, I love Nike and ACICS for Sports, Adidas and Puma for casual wear and a nice pair of Ferragamo for that time when I have to be a bit more proper.
