Days after ‘human flesh’ was reportedly discovered in a butterscotch cone, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India suspended the licence of Fortune Dairy Industries, the third-party manufacturer of the ice cream. The action came after a Mumbai resident filed a police complaint of getting a human finger in his ice cream cone. The FSSAI carried out an inspection.
First, it ordered a shutdown and later suspended the licence of the plant that operates in Pune’s Loni Kalbhor area of Indapur. Last week, Dr Brandon Ferrao had filed a complaint at Malad Police Station. He discovered a ‘chewing gum’ textured thing in his butterscotch cone, which he had ordered from Zepto.
A police case was filed against Yummo Ice Cream Company under teh IPC sections 272, 273 and 336. Later, the parent company Walko QSR Company Pvt Ltd issued a statement that said, “We, Walko QSR Company Private Limited, hereby confirm & declare that the Batch Number 107E24 for Alphonso Mango Cone (110ml) and Batch Number I11E24 for Butterscotch Cone (110ml) are manufactured by Fortune Dairy Industries Private Limited at its plant located at Plot Number C-55, MIDC Indapur, Maharashtra, Pune-413106.”
Last week on Friday, FSSAI officials carried out an inspection at the third-party manufacturer’s plant, which is located in the industrial cluster in Pune. Working from Loni Deokar area of Indapur taluka, the Fortune Dairy reportedly supplied ice cream across India. Mumbai Police are also probing the entire supply chain.
