Narendra Modi Pune Metro inauguration: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Supriya Sule on Thursday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to inaugurate the new phase of Pune Metro online, as he has already inaugurated the “same” project five times in the past.

Modi’s visit to Pune, scheduled for Thursday, was cancelled due to heavy rains. He was expected to inaugurate the underground stretch of the metro from Civil Court to Swargate.

“It is very unfortunate that we have missed PM Modi’s visit. It is Maharashtra’s culture to welcome a guest. I want to bring it to the PMO’s notice that it would be the sixth time the same Pune Metro project would have been inaugurated,” said Sule, the MP from Baramati.

“So I request the PM to inaugurate Pune Metro online…it is the same project he had inaugurated five times in the past…it will help the people of the Pune city and the inauguration must not wait for the next visit of the PM,” Sule added.

Modi has previously visited Pune for the launch of different phases of the metro.

Shifting her focus to Union Minister Amit Shah’s recent visit to Maharashtra, Sule remarked that the BJP’s only focus seems to be on political rivals rather than the development of the state. “It is strange and interesting that their obsession is not with serving the city but with stopping Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray,” she said.

Sule also pointed out a “coincidence,” recalling that Sharad Pawar had been served an Enforcement Directorate notice exactly five years ago, the same day as Shah’s visit. “they come with elections, and are consistently targeting Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray. There is no talent in BJP, that is why they are importing leaders from other parties,” she remarked.

When asked about the recent visits of both PM Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to the United States, Sule emphasised the longstanding relationship between India and the US. She credited former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for laying the foundation of the strong ties during Barack Obama’s presidency.
