The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday released its second and final list of six candidates for the 68-member Himachal Pradesh assembly elections. The polls are due on November 12 and counting of votes will take place on December 8. The first list comprising 62 names was released Wednesday. The last day for filing and withdrawal of nomination is October 25 and 29 respectively.

In the first list, which also had names of five women candidates, the BJP has dropped 11 sitting MLAs, including a cabinet minister, and changed seats of two ministers. In the second list, out of the six candidates, the BJP has renominated two, interchanged seats between two and brought in two new faces. The BJP’s list was finalised during Monday’s meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee, whose members include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah, among others.

The BJP won a clear majority in the 2017 Assembly elections, and at present the BJP had won 44 seats, Congress 21. The hill state has seen a contest between and three seats by others. In the 2022 Himachal Pradesh elections, the electoral contest will be between the Congress, BJP and new entrant the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur who has been fielded from the Seraj constituency in Mandi district had filed his nomination on Wednesday.
