Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Hemant Soren is likely to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand today. This follows an invitation from Governor CP Radhakrishnan for him to form the government in the state.
“Governor CP Radhakrishnan will administer the oath and office of secrecy to Hemant Soren at 5 pm at Raj Bhavan,” the official told PTI.
On Wednesday, Champai Soren resigned as the Chief Minister following the election of Hemant as the leader by the ruling coalition’s 45 MLAs.
Hemant, who had been released on bail by the state High Court on June 28 after five months in jail, was acquitted due to reasons suggesting his innocence in a money laundering case related to a land plot in Ranchi.

Following the resignation by Champai Soren barely five months after being sworn in, Hemant Soren also met the Governor and staked claim to form the government.
On March 30, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) charged Soren and others requesting the court to seize the Ranchi land in a money laundering investigation tied to several land scam cases involving state officials, as per multiple FIRs filed by Jharkhand Police.

The charges against Soren pertain to allegations of illegally acquiring an 8.86-acre land in Ranchi with the assistance of state officials and others. The JMM-led alliance in the state unanimously elected Hemant Soren as their legislature party leader.
A delegation from the JMM-led alliance, including Hemant Soren, Congress state unit president Rajesh Thakur, RJD minister Satyanand Bhokta, MLA Vinod Singh, and Kalpana Soren, the Gandey MLA and wife of Hemant Soren, met Governor Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.
