Commuters were left stranded in long traffic jams in the national capital as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers led a protest in Central Delhi. The headquarters of both the parties are on the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Marg, which is at a distance of about 800 metres.

“Movement of traffic is restricted on DDU Marg due to demonstrations. Traffic is heavy on Vikas Marg, IP Marg, Minto Road, JLN Marg and nearby areas due to diversion of traffic. Commuters are advised to avoid these stretches,” the Delhi Traffic Police posted on ‘X’.

The DDU Marg was opened for the movement of traffic, the Delhi Traffic Police said in a post on X at 3.20 PM.

Heavy traffic was also witnessed on the National Highway-24 and National Highway-9 near Akshardham.

The AAP has been protesting against the alleged cheating in the Chandigarh mayoral polls, while the BJP workers are protesting over alleged “corruption” allegations against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

About five layers of police barriers are put up in between with alleyways leading into DDU Marg and authorities are also questioning passersby over where they are headed to and are being checked

Long jams were also witnessed near India Gate, Bahadurshah Zafar Marg and Minto Road near Connaught Place. Commuters also complained that traffic was affected near Town Hall Chandni Chowk and at Sarai Kale Khan and Dayanand Vihar.
