“Isolated extremely heavy rainfall very likely over Konkan & Goa, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat region, Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka on July 16,” said IMD in a statement. According to IMD, a red alert has been issued for isolated areas in Konkan, Goa, Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Saurashtra & Kutch, and Madhya Maharashtra.
The IMD also anticipates heightened monsoon activity in Peninsular and adjoining central India over the next 4-5 days, emphasising the potential for widespread weather impacts across these regions.

The weather department forecasts mostly cloudy skies with light rain expected on Tuesday in Delhi. Temperatures are expected to range from 25 to 36 degrees Celsius. According to the IMD’s seven-day forecast, there are no alerts issued for Delhi. On Monday morning, several areas in the national capital experienced rainfall, with the highest temperature reaching 35.2 degrees Celsius.
Red alert to continue in parts of Karnataka
Heavy and persistent rainfall persists across various regions of Karnataka, prompting the IMD to reaffirm its red alert for the state’s south interior and coastal areas on July 16. The downpour on July 15 severely disrupted normal life, particularly in Uttara Kannada and Kodagu districts.
In Uttara Kannada’s Karwar taluk, flooding caused by heavy rains has affected several villages, including Araga, Chendia, Iduru, and Toduru. The construction of a four-lane national highway and barricades at Kadamba naval base exacerbated the situation, leading to inundation of surrounding areas.
Heavy rains lash Gujarat
The weather department has issued forecasts predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall, with potential for extremely heavy falls in certain areas across Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Chhota Udepur, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Gir Somnath districts on Tuesday. The IMD also anticipates heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts of Gujarat over the next five days.
According to data from the State Emergency Response Centre (SEOC), Gujarat has received 30 percent of its average monsoon rainfall thus far. Ahmedabad experienced intense rainfall during the afternoon and evening, leading to waterlogging on roads, underpasses, and low-lying areas. These conditions resulted in traffic congestion and other difficulties for residents.
IMD forecasts heavy rainfall in Odisha till July 19
Odisha is anticipating prolonged rainfall over the next four days due to a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, according to IMD. One low pressure area has already formed, with another expected by July 19. While no specific warnings are issued for July 16, heavy rains are forecasted to resume on July 17 in areas like Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Malkangiri, and Koraput. Concurrently, a new low-pressure area may develop around July 19 in west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal.
On July 18, heavy rains are expected in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, and Balangir, as per IMD predictions. For July 19, the IMD has issued warnings forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in Koraput and Malkangiri, with heavy rains likely in Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal districts.

According to RMC Mumbai, heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in certain areas of Maharashtra today, with isolated locations in North Konkan districts likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall. Similar conditions are expected in South Konkan-Goa districts.
In the Ghat areas of North Madhya Maharashtra, heavy to very heavy rainfall, including extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places, is predicted. The Ghat areas of South Madhya Maharashtra may also see heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Additionally, isolated locations in Marathwada districts could experience thunderstorms with lightning, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph.
