In a move to contain the outrage due to the suicide of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, the state government has appointed Om Prakash Singh as acting Director General of Police (DGP), after the government sent Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor on leave. Kapoor has been named in the nine-page suicide note of Kumar.
OP Singh has now been given the additional charge of the DGP, according to a latest government order. Singh is at present serving as the Managing Director of Haryana Police Housing Corporation. He is also the brother-in-law of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, and has previously served in Faridabad as well.

Shatrujeet Kapoor sent to leave
Shatrujeet Kapoor was sent on leave amid a mounting pressure on the government from the opposition and citizens after IPS officer Y Puran Kumar named him, and others in his suicide note. Parties have a strict action against the officials named in the suicide note.
The Haryana government had also transferred Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, who is also allegedly linked to the case. These officials allegedly mentally harassed the deceased officer for months, and also discriminated against him on the basis of caste.

What is the case?
IPS officer Y Puran Kumar was found dead at his home in Chandigarh on October 7. He allegedly shot himself and died. The cops had recovered a nine-page suicide note, believed to have been written by him. In the note, the officer levelled serious allegations against eight senior IPS officers, including Kapoor and Bijarniya.
He accused them of caste-based discrimination, intentional psychological harassment, public humiliation and consistent misuse of power.
The government immediately formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is investigating the case. Meanwhile, Haryana Director-General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur has been placed on leave.
