The Congress party on Tuesday alleged a slowdown in the uploading of election trends for the Haryana assembly polls on the Election Commission’s website.
The opposition party questioned whether the BJP was attempting to exert pressure on the administration by sharing “outdated” and “misleading” trends.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commissioners, Congress General Secretary in-charge of Communications, Jairam Ramesh, highlighted an “unexplained slowdown” in the updating of results on the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) website over the past two hours, specifically between 9 and 11 am.
“As you can imagine this allows bad faith actors to spin narratives that undermine the process. You can see examples of it already playing out on social media,” Ramesh said in his letter.
“Our fear is also that such narratives can then be used by these mala fide actors to influence processes where counting is still underway i.e. in most of the counting centres,” he added.
Eariler In a post on X, Congress General Secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh stated, “Like the Lok Sabha elections, in Haryana we are again witnessing a slowdown in uploading up-to-date trends on the ECI website.” He further asked, “Is the BJP trying to build pressure on the administration by sharing outdated and misleading trends @ECISVEEP?”
According to the latest trends uploaded by the Election Commission, the BJP was leading in 49 seats, while Congress was ahead in 35. The majority mark for the 90-member assembly is 46.
As counting of votes in Haryana continues, early trends indicate the BJP is crossing the halfway mark. In the 90-member Haryana Assembly, the Election Commission’s latest data shows Congress leading in 49 seats, while the BJP is ahead in 35. A total of 1,031 candidates are contesting, with vote counting for the Haryana Assembly elections having commenced at 8 am today. Counting for the Jammu and Kashmir elections is also underway.
With most exit polls predicting a Congress comeback, the BJP remains hopeful of achieving a hat-trick in the state. Polling for the 90 seats in Haryana was held in a single phase on October 5.
