“Going by the mandate of the voters of Haryana, leaders of both parties have decided that BJP and JJP will form the government together. The chief minister will be from the BJP and deputy chief minister will be from the JJP,” Shah told reporters. The deputy CM will be from Chautala’s party, Shah added. The BJP’s decision to win over Chautala underlines its quest to placate Jats, a dominant community in the state who are believed to have voted mostly against the saffron party in the recent polls, to ensure a smooth run of its government.
Speaking to reporters in Chandigarh after BJP legislative party meeting, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad put to rest the controversy surrounding Gopal Kanda and said the party is not taking support from the controversial MLA. Senior BJP leader Uma Bharti had openly criticised her own party for taking support from controversial MLA Gopal Kanda for forming government in Haryana. The Bharatiya Janata Party is yet to decide whether it will take support from controversial MLA Gopal Kanda to form government in Haryana. "We will first hold a meeting of our legislative party shortly, after that we will decide from whom to take support," BJP Haryana in-charge Anil Jain told reporters.
