The Godavari Pulasa fish, believed to be the tastiest, is also the costliest in the country among all varieties. The fish is sold in Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh mainly during the rainy season, Times of India said. The fish which has hit markets in Vizag, is being sold for a whopping Rs 4,000 per kg… yes, that’s true. Even as there are 26 fish markets in the city, one can find the fish mainly in City Central Fish Market of the Dwarakanagar locality. There are two types of Pulasa that are sold in the city, one is the original Pulasa, that has been caught from the Godavari river, the other one comes from Ganges in West Bengal, the report added further.
Speaking to the paper, K Raja Varma, a fish vendor said he sells the original Godavari Pulasa for Rs 4,000 per Kg. he further said that there is a big difference between the one caught from Godavari and the other from Ganges, as the later is sold for Rs 700-Rs 900 per kg in markets. As per the report, about 50 KG of Pulasa fish is brought into the market on a daily basis. Another vendor also told Times of India that only about 10 Kg of Godavari Pulasa is brought in the market since it is costly, also customers buy it on advanced bookings. Around 40 Kg of fish from the Ganges are brought in the market, he added.
Dr P Shankara Rao, Visakhapatnam district fisheries joint director, while speaking to Times of India said one can find original Pulasa fish at Dowleswaram in East Godavari district.
