A court in Goa issued a notice Tuesday to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh in response to a defamation suit filed by the wife of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. Sulakshana Sawant is seeking damages of Rs 100 crore, accusing Singh of defaming her in connection with an alleged cash-for-jobs scam.
The suit, filed in the civil court at Bicholim in north Goa, alleges that Singh falsely implicated her during a recent press conference in Delhi. The court has given Singh until January 10, 2025, to respond.
Sulakshana Sawant, through her legal representatives, is requesting the court to order Singh to publicly apologise, clarify that the allegations were false, and withdraw his statements.
She is also seeking an injunction to prevent Singh from making further defamatory remarks on social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.
The case follows complaints from job aspirants across Goa, who have alleged that they were asked to pay bribes to secure government jobs.
Chief Minister Sawant has said that the state police are conducting a transparent investigation into the allegations.
