The Kolkata police on Friday revealed that three men, including a former student, have been arrested in connection with the alleged gangrape of a law college student.
The Indian Express reported that the three accused are expected to appear before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Alipore, South 24 Parganas, on Friday. Police will ask the court for permission to keep them in custody for further investigation.
The case was filed after the victim lodged a complaint naming all three. Officials said the assault took place on June 25 between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm, and one of the men is accused of carrying out the act, the report added.
A preliminary medical check-up was done at CNMC, Kolkata. Police have questioned witnesses and recorded their statements. The area where the incident allegedly took place has been sealed off for forensic testing.
Two suspects were caught on June 26, while the third was arrested from his home later that night. Police have also taken their mobile phones as part of the investigation.
According to fresh reports coming in, students from the Law College are claiming that one of the accused is linked to the TMC. The girl had reportedly turned down a marriage proposal, following which the accused allegedly locked her inside the college’s guard room and gangraped her later.
