Ex-CM Champai Soren Floating New Party: With the Assembly elections approaching, former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren announced that he has no plans to leave politics and is considering the possibility of launching a new political party. “This marks a new chapter in my life. I won’t be stepping away from politics, as I’ve received immense love and support from my followers. While one chapter has closed, I might establish a new political outfit,” the senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader told PTI after arriving in his ancestral village, Jhilingora, in the Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

This statement comes just days after Soren revealed he was weighing three options: retiring, forming a new party, or joining an existing one.

In a post on social media platform X on Sunday, Soren claimed that on July 3, shortly after Hemant Soren was released on bail by the Jharkhand High Court, all of his scheduled events were abruptly canceled without explanation. “When I inquired about the cancellations, I was informed that there was a party legislators’ meeting on July 3, and I was barred from attending any government events until then,” he wrote.

He further expressed his concerns about the party’s internal functioning, stating, “When the party’s central executive meeting hasn’t been convened for years and unilateral decisions are made, who do I approach with my grievances? I am one of the senior members of this party, and most others are juniors. The party’s supremo, who is senior to me, is no longer active in politics due to health reasons. What other options do I have? If he had been active, perhaps things would have been different.”

According to JMM sources, tensions within the party escalated after Champai’s request to have his son nominated as the candidate for the Ghatshila seat in the upcoming Assembly elections was denied. “Champai is laying the groundwork for his exit, and various unfounded stories are being circulated. It’s evident that he traveled to Kolkata and reportedly met with BJP leaders. Everything will become clear if and when he joins the BJP,” a JMM leader commented.
